Safeguarding

Basketball Wales is committed to ensuring the safeguarding of children and adults at all levels of the game.

Everyone has the right to play basketball in a safe and secure environment. Basketball Wales want everyone involved in basketball to have fun and enjoy the game so are committed to safeguarding.

Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults is something all of us in Basketball Wales are responsible for.

What to do if you have any concerns - Respond, Record, Report

It is vital that all complaints, concerns and allegations are reported, the welfare of the child or vulnerable adult has to be the paramount consideration.

The following dos and donts should be followed:

Do...

Stay Calm

Ask open questions, do not probe.

Be honest and explain you will have to tell someone else

Make a note of everything that has been disclosed

Follow National Governing Body guidelines

Don’t...

Panic

Make any judgements or react

Make promises that may not be kept

Make them keep repeating concerns

Write your opinion, only write the disclosed facts

REMEMBER: It is not your responsibility to determine if abuse has taken place, but it is your responsibility to report it!
