Basketball Wales Directors


Basketball Wales is the National Governing Body of the game here in Wales. It has a voluntary Board of Directors, which works hard for the benefit of all connected with the sport.


Who's favourite player is Larry Bird, who has represented GB in the Olympics and who has called a foul on the legendary Kobe Bryant?


Here's your chance to find out a little bit more about them.


Steve Lloyd
Steve has over 50 years’ involvement with basketball. He was a former national league player in England as well as a Welsh international player and coach. He is a former CEO of Basketball Wales and has been a guest coach at Oregon State University, USA. Steve has an extensive educational background with a teaching degree a Masters degree and PHD in fitness and health. He has been a Local Authority Physical Education Inspector, the past President of the British Association of Advisers and Lecturers in Physical Education and is the current President of the Institute of Expert Witnesses. Hopes and ambitions...To build on the good work of everybody connected with Basketball Wales and help the game. reach its full potential in Wales and the UK. Favourite player...Michael Jordan - fortunate to see him play in the NBA - he was really special. Interesting fact...Running my tenth London marathon with my wife and two sons - a great day for us all.



Stef Collins
Womens Basketball Director
Stef has played basketball for over 20 years. She has played NCAA Division 1 at St. Bonaventure University, named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, Atlantic 10 All-Conference team honours and All-Academic team in her sophomore, junior and senior years. In the UK she has played in the EBL Division 1 and now in the WBBL. Her other achievements include: BUCS Championship title as a player (2008, 2009, 2010); EBL Division 1 league champions in 2011-2012 and EBL Division 1 play-off final winners in 2009-2010. Stef has been the player-coach of the Cardiff Met Archers since 2011, winning the England Basketball National Cup in 2015. She represented Team GB in the London 2012 Olympics as well as playing in three Eurobasket competitions. She is currently undertaking an MSc Strength and Conditioning degree at Cardiff Met University. She has coached across all age groups and was the Wales Female Development Coach from 2009-2011. Hopes and ambitions…To increase the number of female basketball players and the profile of the sport in Wales. Favourite player…Steve Kerr and Courtney Vandersloot. Interesting fact...125 Caps for GB Women’s Basketball Team.



Hayden Jones
Officiating Director
Hayden has been involved in basketball for over 30 years. Played club basketball in Swansea and represented Wales at U19 youth level. (Long before the Promotions Cup and Division C!). He qualified as a floor official at the age of 16 and after many years in local leagues took the decision to officiate in England from 2000. Hayden qualified as an International Referee in 2005 and has officiated at 2 Women's Eurobasket Championships in 2011 & 2013, including the semi-final in 2011. He also officiated at the first Euroleague Women Final 8 in Istanbul in 2012. Hayden has now officiated in 10 major cup and play-off finals in the BBL. Hopes and ambitions…To see basketball played in schools as a first choice indoor sport, and to see Basketball Wales be commercially strong on its own merits.  Favourite player…There is only one - Michael Jordan. He transformed the game and the dynamic of the whole sport. Interesting fact…I was fortunate enough to officiate a pre-Olympic friendly between GB and the USA. My first foul call was on Kobe Bryant!



Jonathan Shefford
Legal Director
Jonathan has been involved with Welsh basketball for the past 10 years, initially at college and then at club level. He graduated with an LLB and completed his Legal Practice Course both at Swansea University. He has an array of experience from working within the legal sector that can bring all this experience to Basketball Wales. He has been working in the private sector for the past 3 years on contentious and non-contentious matters and has conducted work in multiple jurisdictions, most recently assisted an international corporation on a multi-million pound claim in the Middle East. Hopes and ambitions…To improve the popularity of the sport within Wales. To see a grass roots system in place that can promote the sport and to develop players into their full potential and ideally see basketball reach the level as seen in mainland Europe. Favourite player… Not to be cliche but has to be MJ closely followed by Dwayne Wade. Interesting fact…My college team were asked to demonstrate basketball for the Queen when the LC2 in Swansea was opened!



Cameron Seeley
Cameron has been involved in basketball in Wales for over 35 years, both as a player and as a coach. As a player he played local Welsh League and English National League for various clubs throughout the South Wales region. He represented Wales at senior level for many years including captaining his country on numerous occasions. As a coach he has worked at all levels of the game and with males and females from under 12 to senior national teams. Cameron has set up and run several clubs throughout the South East region facilitating local players to experience the sport of basketball. He has also played and coached outside of Wales and is currently Head of Basketball at Millfield School in Somerset. Hopes and ambitions…I hope that we can raise the standards of basketball in Wales for players and coaches, so we can move forward during this next exciting period of Welsh basketball history. Favourite player…Larry Bird Interesting fact…In my previous life I was a professional tennis coach



Anne-Marie Koukouravas
Anne-Marie has over 20 years working in marketing in financial services organisations. She is currently Marketing Director at the Principality Building Society. And most importantly a supportive Basketball Mum!  Hopes and Ambitions…Having seen the progress Basketball Wales has made over the past 5 years since my boys began to play the sport, I'd love us to really capitalise on that momentum and help everyone to be the best that they can be - as a player, a coach or an official. With such little funding for the sport the importance of us all working together is fundamental to the success of Basketball in Wales. Favorite player…My husband would kill me if I didn't say Nick Gallis. Interesting fact…I'm an ex Welsh international Volleyball Player!!



Denis Campbell
Sponsorship Manager (
Non- Executive Director)
The most recent member of the Board is Denis who has recently been appointed as the new Basketball Wales Sponsorship Manager. Many in South Wales will know Denis from his involvement in Welsh Basketball as one of its senior referees since he moved to Wales almost 12 years ago. Denis has an extensive background in sports marketing including helping to devise a marketing strategy and campaign for the Miami Heat in 1998, when the Heat first entered the NBA as a new franchise. Denis has also advised and worked on many other major sports events including PGA of America and Bank of Boston/Deutsche Bank Classic, America's Cup (Newport) and the Ryder Cup 2010 (Wales). Hopes and ambitions…I am looking forward to the challenge of helping to grow the marketing and sponsorship potential of Basketball Wales.
