Apr 28, 2013, 8:38 pm Basketball Wales is proud to have Welsh Clubs and teams competing at different levels across the VCARS.co.uk National League. These clubs are providing the competition and development ground to produce better players that can potentially go on to represent Wales.
It brings even more honour to Wales when some of these players are recognised by their divisions for the hard work and outstanding performance they put in.
Basketball Wales would like to congratulate the following players for their achievements in the 2012/13 season:
Alan Duppa Mold Magic VCARS.co.uk D4 Men (North) Player of the year
Matthew Gwynne Glamorgan Gladiators VCARS.co.uk D2 Men Player of the year
Stef Collins Cardiff Archers VCARS.co.uk D1 Women Player of the year Apr 26, 2013, 12:17 pm Basketball Wales is sorry to announce the resignation of the Senior Men's Head Coach, Steve Williams. Coach Williams has been in charge of the team since 2007 and in that time, the national team programme has grown significantly, which is a testimony to Steve's involvement. Unfortunately, due to the increase in duties, roles and time required to fulfil the role of Senior Head Coach, Coach Williams is no longer able to commit the necessary time needed due to his work commitments.
Basketball Wales would like to take this opportunity to thank Steve Williams for all his hard work over the past years and Steve has indicated that even though he cannot commit to coaching the senior team, he will still be involved with the Welsh National Team in any way he can. Jennings has been involved with GB basketball since its inception in 2006, working with the Under-20 Women's programme, the World University Games team and the Senior Women's national side. As head coach to the Standard Life GB Under-20s he led the team to the European Division B title in 2010, and then to a best ever performance by a British team when they reached the quarter finals of the European Championship Division A in 2011. More recently he was part of Tom Maher's Senior Women's coaching team in their build up to the summer of 2012. Jennings said: "Having been part of the coaching team since 2006 I'm honoured to have been given the chance to lead British Basketball's Women's programme into EuroBasket 2013. We are ambitious and we want to build a team capable of challenging for honours at the top of the international game. "After convincing UK Sport that basketball was worthy of investment, we have a tough challenge ahead, but it's one I know both staff and players will thrive on. We want to deliver the best performances possible at the up-coming EuroBasket in France. .
