Basketball Wales Registrations 2014/15
Aug 11, 2014, 11:50 am

Basketball Wales is in the process of finalising a new online registration system that will be used for the coming season.

The registrations portal will open on 1st September 2014, and access to the portal will be via www.basketballwales.com and other BW social media.

This online registration system will be for players, coaches, referees, table officials, volunteers and team followers. Payment for individual licences will be processed via Credit or Debit Card

All Clubs must register beforehand by completing the club registration form which can be downloaded at the following link http://basketballwales.com/index.php?downloadreq=55252

If your club has not completed the club registration form and sent in payment to Basketball Wales players will not be able to licence through the portal. It is advised that this form is returned by the clubs before 1st September 2014

No club, player, of officials will be permitted in any Basketball Wales activities with holding a valid BW licence which must be available for inspection by match officials for all BW competitions.

Basketball Wales has worked to make this registration process as simple as possible for its members. There will be a FAQ’s section to help guide you through the process and for any additional queries please email membership@basketballwales.com

Please note that Basketball wales will be enforcing a strict ‘No licence – No play’ policy for all matches this season.

Basketball Wales requires that each club/person involved or associated with the game of basketball in Wales shall register each season as a registered member of the governing body.

Each year Basketball Wales pays a substantial premium for a policy of insurance providing public liability and professional indemnity cover for the governing body and its registered members.

The benefit of the insurance policy is not available to those who are not registered members.  The implication of this can be very severe.  If a person involved in Basketball in Wales causes or contributes to injury to another, or damage to the property of another, and does not have the benefit of insurance cover, that person can be held liable for the loss or damage caused to another, and would have to pay for the damage or loss including damages for personal injury, from their own resources.

Therefore there is a positive advantage for all involved in basketball in Wales to become registered members, in order to have the protection offered by the insurance policy arranged by Basketball Wales.

The SWBA would like to express a deep gratitude of thanks to long standing committee member Kevin Davies, who announced at the recent league AGM he would be retiring from his role on the committee.

Kevin's involvement in Basketball started back in the 1970's where he was a player for Aberdare, he then went on to establish Merthyr Basketball Club where he continued to play and then finished his career as a successful youth and senior team coach winning the following league titles.

U16 league and Cup in 2000

U18 Cup in 2000

U14 Cup in 2002

Senior Cup and U14 league 2003

U16 league and the U14 League and Cup in 2004

U16 Cup in 2006

Senior League in 2008

Kevin was elected to the league committee in 2002 and then took over the role off fixture secretary for the 2004/05 season where he has served continually until 2014. During this period of time the league has grown from strength to strength and has seen the introduction of numerous new teams from across South Wales and the expansion of the league to three successful divisions.

The league would like to thank Kevin for all the hard work, time and commitment he has given to his role on the committee and wishes him a very happy retirement.
