Senior Women back in Manchester for vital qualifiers
Great Britain Senior Women will return to Manchester for their two vital EuroBasket Women 2017 qualification games in February.
Head Coach Jose Maria Buceta will lead his side into Group C clashes with Albania and Montenegro, as the team looks to revive its prospects of reaching a fabulous fourth consecutive appearance at Eurobasket Women Final Round.
Having played their previous home tie against Italy at the Amaechi Centre in front of a passionate and packed home crowd, the action will now switch to the new National Basketball Performance Centre at Belle Vue Sports Village.
Fans are urged to get closer to the action and roar the team on to a pair of victories.
They will be able to give their backing to an array of Olympians, including the likes of Jo Leedham and Azania Stewart – as well as some of the biggest stars of the Women's British Basketball League (WBBL).
Great Britain will look to get off the mark with a victory against Albania on Saturday 20 February in a 7pm tip-off and will then lock horns with Montenegro on Wednesday 24 February in another 7pm start.
"When we needed a lift against Italy last month, the support from the fans in Manchester was very important for us and it helped us back into the game,” reiterated Coach Buceta.
"The players appreciate how much it means when everyone comes to the games and really brings the noise.
"While we didn't quite get the win against Italy, we feel we are moving in the right direction and with the help of the fans, we can get the two wins we need in February.”

Basketball Wales appoint Kristaps Petrovs as Senior Men's Head Coach
Dec 14, 2015, 1:00 pm

Basketball Wales is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristaps Petrovs who takes over as head coach of the men’s senior national team and will oversee the forthcoming FIBA small countries championships which will take place this summer in Chisinau, Moldova.

Petrovs steps into the vacant head coaching role following the departure of Coach Keith Mair who had to stand down for health reasons earlier this year. Basketball Wales would like to thank Keith for all the work he did during his time as head coach and wishes him a full and speedy recovery.

Petrovs who comes from Latvia has a vast array of coaching experience most notably as an assistant coach of Latvian professional club BK Valmiera and the U16 Latvian men’s team which competed at FIBA European championships in 2007

Petrovs holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science obtained from the Latvian academy of sports, and is also a certified strength and conditioning coach and personal trainer. Kristaps is currently undertaking his Master’s degree in strength and conditioning.

Speaking of this new appointment, Basketball Wales Chairman Dr Steve Lloyd said “We are very pleased to welcome Kristaps to the coaching team, we are very excited to have someone with his coaching experience and professional qualities to take on the head coaching role of our Senior men’s programme”

Kristaps starts his tenure as head coach with immediate effect and will oversee his first training session this coming weekend.

Innovation Hawk-Eye technology gets British Basketball onto screens worldwide

This exciting deal has been made possible by cutting edge technology supplied by UK sports technology innovators, Hawk-Eye Innovations, best known for its electronic line calling service for the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships and its Premier League football goal line technology.

The first stage of this ground-breaking partnership will see an initial pilot of four BBL events streamed live in January 2016 via Skysports.com and Webcastsport.com.
Dates, times and competitions are as follows:
• Fri Jan 8, 2016 - Live Stream from 19.15
The Copper Box, London: BBL Championship - London Lions v Leicester Riders
• Sun Jan 17, 2016 - Live Stream from 11.45
Barclaycard Arena, Birmingham: WBBL Trophy Final, BBL Slam Dunk, BBL Cup Final
• Fri Jan 22, 2016 - Live Stream from 19.15

• Sat Jan 30, 2016 - Live Stream from 15.45
New Leicester Community Sports Arena, Leicester: WBBL Championship - Leicester Riders v Westfield Health Sheffield Hatters & BBL Championship - Leicester Riders v Surrey Scorchers
The four pilot BBL events are to be produced by sports broadcaster, WebcastSport, using Hawk-Eye’s SMART production service, a solution that significantly reduces the cost of live basketball production by up to 75% without impacting on the quality of the output.
Employing four to six automated broadcast quality HD cameras, which utilise Hawk-Eye’s cutting edge, vision processing techniques, and combining Hawk-Eye’s IT-based software platform, WebcastSport will deliver a live, HD quality sports programme ready for streaming, which will also be available free on demand.
A further element of the collaboration will enable basketball fans worldwide to watch the live streaming of BBL games for free on their PC, and on their tablet or smart phone via the Sky Sports’ app.
Bob Hope, Commercial Director, BBL, WBBL and GB Basketball commented, “This is a hugely exciting first step towards our goal of bringing British basketball to fans worldwide.
"I would like to thank all parties involved who have worked both hard and selflessly to pull this ground-breaking collaboration together.
"Not only will the partnership give fans the opportunity of watching live games on their PCs but also on their tablets and Smartphones, and all for free.
"This, coupled with accessibility worldwide, was for us, an important element of this project.”
Hawk-Eye’s Managing Director, Stephen Carter said, “We are delighted to be part of this innovative collaboration with the BBL.
"Following our trials with networks across multiple American sports, including basketball and baseball, we feel our technology is the perfect match for the BBL and we look forward to developing this partnership in 2016.”
Meanwhile Kevin Magee, Managing Director of WebcastSport, added, “WebcastSport is proud to be the web streaming partner for the BBL.
“We are excited to be able to bring our many years of broadcast expertise to one of the UK’s largest sports and to be able to deliver the league live to webcastsport.com viewers free of charge.
“The opportunity to collaborate with Hawk-Eye and its new technologies, and the added bonus of our partnership with Skysports.com, will see us take the sport into a new era of interaction with the fan base.”
