Wales Represented at FIBA Europe 3x3 eurotour

This weekend players from Wales Senior Men and Senior Women squads will be travelling to Riga in Latvia and taking part in the qualifying round of the FIBA Europe 3x3 championships.Wales are the only team from the UK taking part, Scotland and England / GB are not participating.

The games are scheduled to be streamed live through youtube.

There are 12 teams in the men's group and 9 in the women s. The top 4 teams go through to the finals in Romania in September, with the next best 2 teams, based on results, joining them.
Wales men have managed to avoid playing the 2014 World 3x3 runners up Serbia , but the women have the 2014 world 3x3 semi finalist Czech Republic in their group as well the local home team, Latvia.

WALES SENIOR WOMEN'S TEAM

*WEEK 3*** of the FIBA European Championships see Wales women go into action as they take on the current champions and hosts, Austria in the opening game of the championships at 6pm UK time on Monday 14th July. There are 3 new caps in the team this year, Jennifer Dorney-Kingdom, Melanie Curson and Jessica Hunt also the team see the return of Sarah Wagstaff and Laura Hinchliffe who both last took the floor for Wales in 2010 in Armenia. The coaching staff has a new look as well with Solent Suns coach Christopher Lee coming in as Assistant Coach and 2012 Womens Assistant Coach Shaun Reynolds moving up to Head Coach.

BBL stars Drew Sullivan, James Jones and Gareth Murray have all been named to the GB squad for the upcoming EuroBasket preparation & qualification games.

 

They are joined in the squad by NBA stars Luol Deng, Joel Freeland, and Byron Mullens.

 

Great Britain men's team are relying on you to help them sustain their superb rise to the fore as an elite level basketball nation.

 

In July, for the first time since their appearance at EuroBasket 2013, the Great Britain Men's basketball team will be stepping out on home soil in two exciting preparation games against Latvia at the University of Worcester Arena.

 

In August, the team will hit the court at the Copper Box Arena on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in exciting match-ups against Group A rivals Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as Iceland.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina will arrive with legendary head coach Dusko Ivanovic, infamous for his temperamental coaching style, whilst forward Mirza Teletovic can often prove an irresistible force.

 

Iceland meanwhile can't be taken lightly, especially with the likes of the prolific Jon Stefansson and powerful forward Hlynur Baeringsson on board.

An exciting opportunity within Basketball Wales has arisen for a Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach and Sports Scientist (voluntary).

The successful candidate will take lead role in the development of the Strength & Conditioning program at Basketball Wales and provide Sports Science support to the National Program.

Role
Strength & Conditioning

Provide S&C support to elite athletes around the country.
To attend national team training, where you will be required to deliver warm-up and cool down procedures, speed and agility drills and any other tasks and the discretion of the Head Coach.
Monitor selected athletes on a weekly basis.
Monitor and conduct a battery of fitness tests designed to cover all aspects of playing performance.
If asked, attend tournaments including European championships (expenses covered)

Sports Science
Conduct workshops when required on aspects of Sports Science
Educate athletes in certain aspects of Sports Science
Manage Sport Science Support when needed

Essential:

Currently undergoing an undergraduate Degree in Strength & Conditioning or Sports Science (BSc)

Demonstrate an understanding of strength and conditioning theory, principles in periodization and practical application.

Ability to effectively program S&C sessions.

Ability to teach Olympic Lifts and speed and agility mechanics

Ability to manage and co-ordinate athletes and programs.

Competent in word processing and use of Microsoft Excel

Excellent communication skills

Flexible working hours (including weekend and evenings)

Driving license and transport availability

Desirable:

Coaching Qualification in Basketball

First Aid Certificate

Experience working within Team Sports
